Too Big To Fail?

That’s a phrase that is being thrown around a lot these days. We’re told this business or that institution is just too big to fail. So big that they must be saved. But is their very size the reason for their plight? Business growth is certainly a desirable goal. I never met a business owner or ceo that didn’t want to grow their company.
But all the talk about taxpayer-funded bailouts for these “big” companies got me thinking that perhaps this attraction to “big” is what gets businesses in trouble in the first place. Have these businesses grown so much that they can’t get out of their own way? Maybe it’s time to not so much downsize but to rightsize?
Consider that small business has been the backbone of our economy for decades. They succeed due to the energy they create as incubators of innovative thought. A small business is flexible. Responsive. Able to turn on a dime within changing market conditions. Not so much for Mr. Big.
Our industry has its share of giants for sure. However, the very attributes that drive small business are often found at the core of the smaller creative firms that dot the landscape. Creative. Flexible. Responsive. Small firms know how to work with budgets. They live it every day and understand how to squeeze the most out of every dollar. They know how to fight to survive. And, they’ll probably never get a taxpayer bailout.
All that being said, as companies review their marketing and communication strategies, it becomes apparent that one of the best ways to get more value for an investment in design and communications is to start small. A small creative firm (like Red Flannel, of course) as a partner can peal away the layers that encumber the process and effectively respond to help you reach your goals.
Hesitant to consider a smaller firm for your business? Look closely, I think you’ll discover they offer the resources and expertise needed to help you succeed. So if you’re thinking about downsizing I’d suggest instead that you rightsize. You’ll find us to be a perfect fit.
